Technician: Fine Art (EXTAD 24/2/2026)
Purpose
To providing technical assistance in studios during departmental projects to ensure effective delivery of practical-based courses in areas such as ceramics, sculpture, painting, drawing, product design, graphic design, fashion and textiles, and other applied design disciplines.
Responsibilities
1. Managing and preparing studios and workshops for practical teaching, ensuring cleanliness, safety, and readiness of equipment and materials.
2. Providing technical support to lecturers and students during practical classes, demonstrations, and workshops, including guidance on the proper use of tools, equipment, and artistic production techniques.
3. Operating, maintaining, and conducting basic repairs on workshop equipment and ensuring proper records of maintenance and usage are kept.
4. Managing workshop materials, tools, and consumables, including inventory control and supporting procurement by providing technical specifications.
5. Supporting students in practical assignments, exhibitions, research, fabrication, and final-year projects to achieve professional-quality outputs.
6. Assisting academic staff and students in research, innovation, prototyping, and the development of creative products while contributing to the improvement of production techniques and technologies.
7. Ensuring compliance with occupational health and safety standards in all studio and workshop activities.
Requirements
i. Should have a degree in Fine Art or a relevant filed.
ii. Practical skills and experience in art, design, fabrication, and studio practices.
iii. Ability to operate and maintain creative production equipment.
iv. Knowledge of occupational health and safety procedures.
v. Ability to work collaboratively with lecturers and students.
